Introduction: This study investigated the sealing ability of three different adhesives in primary bovine teeth. Methods: Facial and lingual class V cavities were prepared half in enamel and half in cementum, in 48 bovine primary mandibular incisors and randomly divided into three groups and each group divided to two subgroups. The tested adhesives were XPBond (XP), ClearfilS3 Bond (S3), and Xeno III (XE). All cavities were restored with composite and light cured. After 24 hours storage in 37°C distilled water and polishing, teeth were thermocycled and sealed with nail varnish. Then, they were stored in 2% methylene blue and dye penetration was evaluated under a stereomicroscope. Results: No significant differences were recorded in the microleakage value between three adhesives in enamel and dentin margins (p>0.0.5) before and after thermocycling. The lowest microleakage value was obtained in XE followed by XP and S3. Conclusion: There were not any differences between adhesives in enamel and dentin margins of class V cavities on primary bovine teeth.

Introduction: Quality of life is defined as the sense of well-being and satisfaction with daily performances influenced by dental and oral conditions. Oral diseases are very common and have impacts on different aspects of individual's life and can change their performances. In other word, they can change the quality of life. The real impact of health and disease on daily performances is considered as Health-Related Quality of Life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impacts of oral diseases on quality of life in patients referred to Mashhad Faculty of Dentistry and Jahad Dental Clinic. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed using non randomized sampling method. For this study, 500 patients referred to Mashhad Faculty of Dentistry and Jahad Dental Clinic with age >15 years were recruited. An educated interviewer asked the questions of the Persian version of OIDP questionnaire, which was valid and reliable for Iranian population. In this index the frequency and severity of each impact were recorded. Finally, each was attributed to specific oral conditions, as indicated by the respondents. The OIDP score is expressed as the sum of the different performance scores divided by the maximum possible score. Results: According to the results of this study, 84% of patients had negative impacts on their quality of life. Gender and job had significant associations with OIDP score. There was not any significant association between OIDP score and general health. The most and the least commonly affected daily performances were eating and going out, respectively. Conclusion: The most and the least effective oral diseases were toothache and tooth size and shape, respectively so the most treatment need is root canal therapy and tooth repair and to relieve pain.

Introduction: Like other measures of human development, dental development is not in complete accordance to chronological age. Investigations show that dental age can be affected by gender, race, systemic conditions, and some other factors and consequently, be different in people of the same chronological age. A correct estimation of dental age and its development in children is of great importance to design the appropriate dental treatment plan. One of the factors predicted to influence dental development is the physical status of newborn, of which, the most common indices are birth weight and height. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of these two factors on the dental development of permanent teeth in children of both genders. Methods: The dental ages of 211 of 4-14 year old healthy children were calculated using their panoramic radiographs according to Demirjian’s method. Birth weight, height, and date were recorded from the vaccination certificate. The dental development rate was obtained by subtracting chronological age from dental age. Pearson correlation tests and regression analysis were conducted in both genders. Results: the correlation between dental development and birth weight and birth height was positive, when separated by gender; this correlation was only significant among females. Conclusion: There is a positive relationship between physical status of newborn and the development of permanent teeth. This should be taken into consideration when designing dental treatment plans for children

Introduction: Pleomorphic adenoma of the upper lip is a rare entity and its diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion. The aim of this study was to review the reported cases of pleomorphic adenoma (PA) of the upper lip. Methods: This study was performed on the basis of the clinical features of 10 well-documented reported cases of the upper lip pleomorphic adenomas from 1990 to 2012 which have been indexed in the PubMed. The search strategy based on MeSH keywords included "salivary gland tumor", "salivary gland cancer", "pleomorphic adenoma", and "mixed tumor". In the clinical records the following data have been considered: Age, sex, clinical view, complaint time, site, size, texture, pathological view, treatment, recurrence rate, symptom and follow-up period. Results: Of the 11 reported cases of PA, 7 (63.7%) were female and 4 (36.3%) were male, with age ranging from 12 to 65 years. 50% of the patients were between 35 and 55 years of age. Only 3 (27.2%) of cases were younger than 20. The main clinical presentation of lesion in all cases was a submucosal nodule. There was a large interval between the first symptoms and diagnosis. The size of the lesions were between 1 and 3 cm. Involvement of the right half of the upper lip was more common than the left side. 63.6% of the lesions showed a firm consistency and bone formation was seen in one (9.09%) case. The follow-up period ranged from 5 to 48 months. There was no evidence of recurrence in any of the reported cases. Conclusion: Although rare, pleomorphic adenoma should be considered as a differential diagnosis for the swellings in the upper lip. PA has a potential for malignant transformation

Introduction: The aim of this study was to identify the reasons for failure in clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic diagnoses as well as their interactions with each other. Methods: Personal information and lesion characteristics of 51 patients with central or peripheral exophytic lesions were collected in Mashhad dental school. Specialists determined clinical and radiographic diagnoses and after taking biopsy, the clinical and radiographic diagnoses were compared with histopathologic diagnosis. Results: Fifty three patients with oral exophytic lesions were evaluated among which 66.6% were peripheral and 33.4% were central exophytic lesions. Males constituted 52.9% of the patients while 47.1% were female. The first clinical and radiographic diagnoses were not confirmed with the histopathologic diagnosis in some patients. 80.4% of the first clinical diagnoses were consistent with the pathologic reports and in other cases, the clinical diagnosis were not confirmed histopathologically. In addition, radiographic diagnoses in six patients were not consistent with pathologic diagnosis. Conclusion: Great concordance was observed between clinical and radiographic diagnosis with pathologic reports

Hyalinizying clear cell carcinoma is a rare tumor which affects women more than men and is more common in minor salivary glands. The purpose of this paper was to describe a case of hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma of buccal vestibule in a 55-year-old woman. It is important to differentiate this neoplasm from other tumors with clear cell features because of their differences in treatment and clinical outcome

The term Riga-Fede disease has been used to describe chronic traumatic ulceration that occurs on the ventral surface of the tongue by natal and neonatal teeth in infants. It is important to diagnose the lesion and treat it by eliminating the source of trauma. In this case report, the neonatal tooth was extracted and after 2 weeks the lesion was resolved and the baby was feeding well.In addition, a review of dental and medical literature is included.
